Studia magisterskie z bohemistyki na UŁ od jesieni 2022!

The Czech Republic Ambassador to Poland, Jakub Dürr and the Honorary Consul of the Czech Republic in Lodz, prof. Krzysztof Skotnicki visited the Faculty of Philology of the University of Lodz. One of the topics that were discussed during the meeting was the change to be made in Slavic studies from the next academic year. In the second cycle studies, students will be able to choose Czech as a leading language.

This was the first visit of the new Ambassador of the Czech Republic appointed in December 2021 at our university. It was organised on the initiative of prof. Skotnicki, who has been actively supporting the creation and development of Bohemian studies at the University of Lodz for years.

Slavic studies is a study programme where students can choose from four languages — Bulgarian, Czech, Serbian and Slovene. Students choose two of them, one of which is the leading language and the other is an additional one. Until now, Czech could be chosen as a leading language only in the case of first-cycle studies. With the beginning of the academic year, such an opportunity will also appear in the case of second-cycle studies

During the meeting with Jakub Dürr, students got to know what tasks the Czech Republic Ambassador to Poland needs to face and they also learned a lot about the Czech education system.

The Ambassador encouraged students to participate in summer language schools, which in July and August are customary organised by Czech universities (including Prague, Brno, Olomouc, Plzeň). He also had the opportunity to ask what guided the students when choosing Bohemian studies at our university.

After the meeting with the UL students, the Ambassador held a conversation attended by representatives of the authorities of the University and the Faculty of Philology.

The conversation addressed, among others, matters of students and scientists mobility, planned joint research and cultural initiatives, as well as support from the Embassy and Czech institutions for further development of the Bohemian studies as part of Lodz Slavic studies.
