Publish or Perish: How Not to Fight with a Journal Editorial Office

Publishing scientific articles is not only about conducting solid research and writing a well-structured paper. It also requires understanding how to communicate with editorial offices, navigate the peer-review process and deal with situations that can sometimes feel stressful, unclear or simply frustrating.

The Employee Affairs Centre invites you to attend a two-day workshop entitled “Publish or Perish: How Not to Fight with a Journal Editorial Office”, which will be held on 21-22 May 2026 at the Doctoral Schools Centre of the University of Lodz, room 105, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The workshop will be led by Dr Justyna Małkuch-Świtalska (Science Trainer).

Publishing Without Helplessness

The aim of the workshop is to strengthen participants’ skills in scientific writing and cooperation with journal editorial offices – both from the perspective of an author and a reviewer. Participants will organise and deepen their knowledge of academic publishing while discussing the roles, opportunities and challenges connected with working on scientific texts.

The satirical game “Publish or Perish”, which uses humour to explore the mechanisms of academic publishing and allows participants to practise responding to situations familiar to many researchers will be an important part of the workshop.

Organisational Information

The workshop will be conducted in English – its full description can be found in the attachment below. Coffee, tea, refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Registration is available via the following form: Registration.

The workshop is financed by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) under the Welcome to Poland project (2023 call).
