Prof. Michał Grabowski przewodniczącym Rady Naukowej MiIZ PAN

Prof. Michał Grabowski was unanimously elected the chairperson of the Scientific Council of the Museum and Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. The main areas of the Institute's activity include the study of the diversity, geography and history of the animal world, as well as ecology, biology and animal protection. Professor Grabowski, Head of the Department of Invertebrate Zoology and Hydrobiology at the Faculty of Biology and Environmental Protection of the University of Lodz, is a zoologist, a hydrobiologist and an evolutionary biologist. His task will be to coordinate the work of the Council. We offer our congratulations!

Prof. Grabowski is also a member of the Committee of Environmental and Evolutionary Biology of the Polish Academy of Sciences, a representative of Poland in the Scientific Committee of the International Barcode of Life and a leader of the Polish Barcode of Life national barcoding initiative. Since 2019, he has also been a member of Team VI of Exact Sciences and Natural Sciences of the Council of Scientific Excellence – a state body whose task is to ensure the highest standards of quality of scientific activity required to obtain scientific degrees, degrees in the field of art and the title of professor.

The Scientific Council supervises all aspects of the current scientific activity of the Institute and includes 33 members.

The Museum and Institute of Zoology of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw is one of the leading scientific units in Poland, conducting extensive thematic research in the field of systematics, ecology and evolution of animals. It is also one of the oldest zoological research institutions in our country – it's more than two hundred years old.

The Institute also has the richest zoological library in Poland and a priceless zoological collection of many millions of specimens collected during scientific expeditions organised by its employees and associates.
