Spotkanie z prof. Marjaane Kangas. Życie w Laponii w dobie zmian klimatycznych.

We are pleased to invite you to a meeting at the EC1 Science and Technology Centre, which is a response to the current climate challenges. "Climate at the Centre" is a whole day filled with workshops, games, cinema special screenings and meetings, of which we highlight one in particular.

At midday in the Assembly Hall of the EC1 Science and Technology Centre, Prof. Jarosław Płuciennik will lead a conversation with Prof. Marjaana Kangas from (University of Lapland) about living conditions in today's Lapland. The 2021 promotional campaign nominating the municipality of Salla in Finland as a candidate to host the 2032 Summer Olympic Games will constitute the starting point for the discussion. The campaign was a strong voice for climate change and information about it circulated in the world media. What has changed over the last 3 years? What is life in one of the coldest inhabited regions of Europe during climate change like? Is the prospect of hosting the Summer Olympic Games in northern Finland getting closer or further? These and other questions related to everyday life in Lapland will be answered by Prof. Marjaana Kangas.

10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. – Laboratory workshops: Energy for the climate (technical break from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., workshops are intended for people over 10 years of age)
10:15 a.m. – Climate hare and hounds – following CO2 traces
11:00 a.m. – Climate myths and a quiz with prizes
11:00 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 4:00 p.m. – Eco House – energy in our everyday life. Themed guided tours*.

12:00 p.m. – “Can we still have a playful mindset while living in the Arctic and Lapland?” Stories by Professor Marjaana Kangas (University of Lapland) interviewed by Prof. Jarosław Płuciennik (University of Lodz) – in English.
2:00 p.m. – screening of “River”, directed by Jennifer Peedom.
2:30 p.m. – “From coal to uranium” – field game*

Prof. Marjaana Kangas is a specialist in the field of playful and game-based learning and has 20 years of experience in research on playful learning in multidisciplinary projects. Kangas is a leading expert in playful learning pedagogy and the first Finnish education researcher to participate in the EdTech Acceleration programme in Silicon Valley in 2017–2019. Her research focuses on the use of play, games and digital tools in learning, as well as the promotion of outdoor education and artificial intelligence in science. She lives and teaches in Lapland, at the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi.
